Electric, Gasoline And Hybrid Cars

Electric, Gasoline and Hybrid Cars

The days of dominance of the gas-powered cars in the market are numbered. That is because hybrid vehicles being rolled out and launched by different car makers are making a wave of interest, curiosity and patronage in the market.

For quite some time, people around the world have been relying on their cars for luxury, convenience and other basic functions. Cars have become a necessity for people that in some countries, it would be hard to live without owning one.

There are a number of issues and concerns regarding man’s reliance and use of cars. For one, prices of gasoline, which is the basic in running cars, are always rising.

Within the past 15 years, gasoline prices have been the most volatile among all the commodities in the world market. That is because the Middle East is the principal supplier and producer of these basic liquids, and you know how political conflicts always arise in the region.

Another setback for the use of cars is the issue on its environmental impact. Running cars use the combustion process of gasoline in the motor and engine, and the process makes massive amounts of pollutants particularly to the air.

There is an emerging green house effect that affects the climate around the world. Experts and environmentalists primarily point out and blame car engine combustion for the ongoing depletion of the protective ozone covering of the planet’s atmosphere.

That prompted car manufacturers to come out with modifications to the ancient and conventional style and structure of cars. Thus, there are hybrid cars.

Gasoline powered cars

Gas-powered cars have fuel tanks that supply gasoline or fuel to its engine. The engine, in turn converts the energy produced into transmission, which in turn turns the wheels, making mobility possible.

To be useful and extremely functional, experts have set standards or minimum requirements for cars. First, the car must run at least 300 miles before re-fueling is required. Another, the car must quickly and easily refuel.

Those two factors will ensure that each car will be able to keep up with other cars and prevent traffic congestion and other delays on the road.

The traditional and conventional gasoline powered cars meet those requirements, with flying colors. There are a number of car models out in the market today that offer much more and better features to the demanding consumers.

It should be noted that consumers now are more particular to the exterior design of cars. But to their advantage, the modern slick and gorgeous cars are also powered up, making the latest cars not just gorgeous but also superior and powerful.

Electric cars

In an attempt to answer the increasing problems on air pollution from car combustions processes, several car manufacturers have come up with cars that are powered not by gasoline but by electricity.

The electricity to be used in running those cars are stored in batteries. Thus, the electric cars have sets of batteries, which provide electricity and energy to the electric motor, which in turn, runs the transmission that turns the wheels.

Thus, no gasoline combustion and carbon monoxide emission is produced. But, one greatest, and most significant setback for the electric car is that it does not meet the specific car power requirements.

Electric cars on the average can only run 50 to 100 miles before electric charging is needed. By that, it falls inferior to the traditional and conventional gasoline powered cars. Another problem is that these cars take longer time to recharge their batteries, to the inconvenience of the user.

Hybrid cars

The contrasting features of the gas-powered cars and the electric cars meet half way through the hybrid cars. Hybrid cars combine the power requirement features of the gas powered and the electric cars.

But, many find hybrid cars a compromise. For one, these cars aim to raise the mileage and lower combustion emissions, and at the same time overcome the limitations of the modern electric cars.

There are a number of hybrid car models out in the market today, though they can be a small overpriced. Before you finally choose to buy one, be sure to know the outstanding features and setbacks and be prepared for surprising discoveries, which could both be advantageous or disadvantageous.

Car Motor- The Most Important Part Of A Rc Car

Car Motor- The Most Vital Part of a RC Car

Today the kids and adults are alike in terms of their past time. Both are engaged in radio controlled cars. They buy these cars at the toy stores. RC cars provide an endless amount of thrill and excitement and serve as their leisure.

Radio controlled cars are consist of two units which is the car itself and the radio controller. Some radio controlled cars are powered by rechargeable batteries and some were powered by batteries with actual gas-powered engines. Gas powered engines are more expensive than electric powered engines.

RC cars are of different types. There’s the off-road and on-road vehicles, touring and racing cars, trucks and buggies. Aside from this, you can also choose on the size, color, type of car like Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches. You also have an option to choose from gas powered or electric engine and if it’s a car or truck type.

The four main parts of radio controlled vehicles are the motor(s), transmitter, receiver and the power source.

Transmitter is the radio controller that you hold in your hand and usually powered by battery. The radio frequency let’s the transmitter relays the steering and controls the command you give to the receiver. Its receiver has two parts, the antenna and a circuit board inside the car. It receives the radio frequencies sent by the transmitter and relayed to the appropriate part of the vehicle.

Radio controlled vehicles features different type of engines. The motor is said to be the heart of the cars and is the most complex part of assembling your own RC car.

The nitro powered radio controlled motors has a 2-stroke or the less conventional 4-stroke version. The most well loved is the 2-stroke motor because of its incredible 2.5 hp of output it produces. RC racers like the high speed and acceleration of this 2-stroke motor.

The 2-stroke motor is the 23cc displacement engine and it requires a fuel oil mixture. It is more suitable in car racing and has the advantage of producing higher rpm’s. On the other hand, 4-stroke motor can run on straight fuel and has an oil reservoir on it. It is better for off-road use and has more power and torque. It is more applicable in a truck that runs on dirt or rough tracks.

The electric car runs quietly and is better suited in your neighborhood while the nitro powered motors lets you feel the real car on racetracks. Electric radio controlled cars and trucks uses rechargeable batteries to run or power the motor and steering, which is usually runs for about 5-10 minutes. In terms of speed, electric motor vehicles have a fantastic deal of pickup though not as much as nitro powered motors.

At first, electric RC cars can be much less expensive than a nitro powered vehicle. But there are other costs like additional battery packs, battery charger and other accessory the will add to the cost. Still, it depends on the kind of car you buy and the battery pack that it requires. Of course for a excellent performance, you will buy the excellent battery packs and excellent charger to save replacing cheaper batteries.

The excellent thing in electric motors is it doesn’t need much maintenance and tuning of its engine compare to nitro powered motor. It is more suitable for beginners because it only needs proper conditioning and proper storage of battery packs that will keep your RC cars running smoothly for years.

In addition, the motors come with or without a pull start. Those with pull start are cheaper, but you still need a starter box.

Tuning a Rc Nitro Engine for Optimal Power – a Guide for Beginners

When I first started racing Gas Powered RC cars, I used to struggle to get the engine into tune, while I was able to get the engine to start on a dime and it used to run fine for nearly an entire fuel tank, it always seemed to over-heat near the end of the run. After many hours out on the track I can now finally say that I’ve got it down, tuning for me is now a 5 minute operation before I take my RC car out, and once it’s dialed in I only need to adjust one needle a fraction of a turn to get it back to it’s optimal settings.

I assume that your know the basics of a RC Nitro Engine and how it works, if not please see my other articles which you can find on my website, see the resource box for details.

The Idle Screw

I always start with the idle screw, I adjust it so that the car will idle high when I’m first dialing in the engine. Once I get the engine up to temperature and with a tube that can keep it running without stalling I slowly adjust the idle down to the point where it’s about to stall, then I turn it back about 1/4 to 1/2 turn depending on the temperature. If your car stalls often it can be worth while increasing the idle to prevent this, it’s only a temporary fix while you sort out the other tuning issue, but it helps keep frustration levels down.

Low Speed Needle.

One of the fantastic debates is which needle to adjust first, if your carburetor only has one needle adjustment screw then it’s not a problem, but if like most glow engines you have two you need to choose which to tune first. I always start with the low speed needle, this is because when you adjust the low speed needle you change the high speed needle. Once the low speed needle is dialed in you shouldn’t have to adjust it again. Make sure you keep it slightly on the rich side, when you RC Car idles the combustion chamber should start to fill up with fuel, this helps keep it cool. After a while the engine will stall, by measuring this you can tell if it should be richer or leaner. A excellent time is about 30 – 60 seconds before it stalls. The RC Car should pull off quickly from a standing start and should not bog down or flame out when you apply full throttle.

High Speed Needle.

Once you have your low speed adjustment needle dialed in it’s time to start getting the power out of the RC engine. This is done with the high speed needle, which adjusts the air to fuel mixture of the engine while it as high RPM (about 40% and up). Keep an eye on the trail of smoke as this is your first clue about the tune. You want to have a lot of smoke coming out of the engine at all RPM, if at some point there is small or no smoke then you are running too lean.

Hints, Tips and Tricks

Turn the needle clockwise to lean out and counter-clockwise to richen the mixture.

A lot of smoke means you tune is rich.

The sound can tell you about your tune.

Reading your glow plug after a run will tell you a lot about your tune.

Make sure to run your engine on the rich side, this will extend it’s life.

A lean engine will always place out more power, but it will shorten the life of your engine.

Temperature, air pressure and humidity play if huge part in the tune, different days will need different settings.
